Microgravity, a gaming start-up, is expecting to raise $10 million in the upcoming 6 months. At the same time, it has launched a program named “gamer goddesses” for women. This venture was launched at the same time in partnership with Software specialists, hardware manufacturers, IT experts, and FMCG firms to promote women in gaming. It is a woman-centric gaming arena to promote their presence in the online sports arena.
Gaming gear manufacturers such as Lenovo, HP, Asus, and Logitech are working as sponsors for women e-sport athletes in India, with Red Bull working as the largest promoter and sponsor celebrity women esports globally.
Given the pandemic induced work from home situation, people have more time to devote to online gaming. The initiative by Microgravity is one of the few examples in the gaming sector to attract consumers and promote inclusivity. According to a joint report by Niko Partners, a games market firm, and Google India has only 18% women gamers, which is the lowest across Asia.
